I haven't done much email in the past three years and I now find that
things have changed due to the spammers. My email address is
peterskye@peterskye.com and I send my email through my own sendmail over
my Verizon DSL DHCP line (the messages go directly from my sendmail to
the recipient and do not use the Verizon mail server). Verizon does
_not_ allow me to put peterskye@peterskye.com in the From portion of my
header; if they did then I wouldn't need my own mail server.
Here's the problem: Some ISPs are now blocking email that comes from
servers with DHCP IP addresses. I just tried to send a question to
DFSee at their dfsee-support@yahoogroups.com mail list, and Yahoo
bounced it back because I have a dynamic address.
Luckily SCOUG doesn't do this or I couldn't even post here.
Verizon wants an additional $80/month for a fixed IP address which seems
a little pricey just to send a few emails. Does anyone know of an
inexpensive ISP who allows custom From addresses in the email header?
Bob Blair: You run your own mail server. What's your secret?
Thanks much,
- Peter
