I have done this, but not recently.  The last time was probably well over a year  
ago, so I don't know if anything has changed.  There may have been some trick  
to it.  At some point, I believe they had some kind of sign-on utility that had  
to run, which i.d.'d you as a subscriber.  That little item was almost certainly  
Win-only.  But then they radically reorganized their forums, dropped the  
(specifically) OS/2 ones, and many others that weren't doing sufficient business,  
and opened a majority of the surviving forums to anyone coming in from the Net --  
though I'm not sure if that included posting or d/l privileges.  I think the identifier  
gizmo went away at this point.  It may just have been that you needed to have  
Cookies Enabled, JavaScript On, or both.  If I still have a setup that connects  
with them, without a problem, I'll let you know.
