OK. Time for some manual cleanup. Take a Unimaint Desktop backup before
doing any of this and make sure you know how to use it to restore your
Desktop.
From the command line or using a text mode File Manager, look at contents
of the Template folder. Look for files with a 1 appended to the name.
These are created when the WPS gets confused. The don't often cause
problems but whe you have problems, they might as well be gone.
Currently, I have:
 FORMATTED TRACE .FTF 0 .... 2-07-00 19:43:20
 FORMATTED TRACE1 .FTF 0 .... 12-24-01 22:04:24
 Icon .ICO 1,010 .... 2-07-00 19:43:20
 INFERRED .ITF 0 .... 2-07-00 19:43:20
 INFERRED1 .ITF 0 .... 12-24-01 22:04:24
"Formatted Trace1.ftf" and Inferred1.itf are garbage and are now gone on
my box. Something bad happened on 12/24/2001 on this box.
Don't try to use the Drives object for this. It will not show the read
file names and may get confused.
Not all Templates have associated files, so don't be surprised if you have
more templates than files.
With Unimaint use the WPS -> Registered Class option. Examine the list.
Excluding WPTouch, if there are any classes with missing DLLs, deregister
the class.
The above are cleanup operations.
With Unimaint, take a look at the PM_Workplace:Templates application.
There will be one key for each Template defined. The Key Value has no
meaning. Delete any listed templates that you don't recognize or that
look odd. If the template has an associated file in the Templates
directory, delete the file too.
Reset the WPS. Reboot and try to open the Template folder again.
Let me know the results.
If the above simple steps are not sufficient, we will continue to delete
templates and files until the problem goes away. This will tell us which
template is corrupted. Once we know this, we can restore the Desktop from
the Unimaint backup, redo the cleanup steps and delete the corrupted
template.
This is all rather safe because a WPS class knows how to recreate its
template. The class usually knows when to recreate the template too, but
not always, as the existance to the extra files shows.
