MR/2 ICE Is Under New Ownership

Keeps Email Flowing

SCOUG member Larry Tawa, President of AlphaCat Solutions, Inc., has purchased the rights and source code to MR/2 ICE for both OS/2 and Windows from Nick Knight. Under Larry's stewardship, MR/2 ICE will be donationware, and development and support will be done on a best efforts basis. Toward that end, Steven Levine will be assisting Larry as the Chief Technical Officer for the OS/2 version of MR/2 ICE in a strictly volunteer capacity. A search is underway to find a Windows counterpart.

MR/2 ICE is an email program with lots of features and configuration options. To find out if MR/2 ICE meets your needs, it will be available on a 60-day trial basis. After that, you'll need to register your copy of MR/2 ICE, and Larry is asking that you make a donation of at least $35 per year to PetSmart Charities online. Once registered, your version will work forever, regardless of subscription status. However, without renewal of the annual subscription, you won't have access to newer MR/2 ICE versions nor to registered support. This change applies to all current as well as future users.

While the MR/2 ICE Experts mailing list will be discontinued, most of the OS/2 and Windows mailing lists will continue. Nick has agreed to host them temporarily until they move to servers at AlphaCat Solutions. The AlphaCat Solutions web site is under development now and should be online in the not too too distant future. The lists will be moderated, so you are asked to treat everyone with respect as if each individual is a Sensei (respected teacher).

The registration process is simple. Just forward Larry a copy of your PetSmart Charities email receipt with the headers intact. For your protection, he suggests that you replace your credit card information with the word "cat" or "dog." Be sure to leave your name, city, state, country, zip code or equivalent and the donation amount ($35 or more) in the forwarded receipt. They must be intact for registration purposes. Your registration code for MR/2 ICE for OS/2 will be emailed to you, allowing you upgrades and support (on a best efforts basis) for one year. As a bonus, your contribution to PetSmart Charities qualifies as a legal donation for tax purposes.

Both Larry and Steven are moving MR/2 ICE forward because they enjoy the challenges. It's not an easy task. But they will be making their best efforts. And in the process they will be helping OS/2 users as well as learning a lot along the way.

For more information, contact Larry Tawa.

For now, a demo version of MR/2 ICE can be downloaded from BMT Micro.
