Martin,
Depends what you want to do with it. I still do
routine data & downloads backup onto CDs, reserving
the DVDs for things like partition image backup
(provided it does not exceed the 4.x G. capacity). If
your capacity needs are typically covered with CDs, I
think they will be more convenient to work with.
On our side of the fence, we have Chris Wohlgemuth's
CD Writer (free, but which I've never gotten around to
installing), and RSJ, which is not free and which I've
used for several years now. From ver. 5.05 on, it is
supposed to support use of DVDs. I haven't followed
up on that, because of some lingering driver issues
here and the fact that I seem to do all my DVD stuff
on the Dark Side. Before too long, I would like to
rectify that, and -- who knows -- perhaps therein lies
some grist for a meeting demo ? (Doubtful for '07,
though.) In particular, I'm curious about CDRWSEL and
its purported ability to harness several (otherwise
unavailable) command line functions of RSJ that we
don't see in their standard menu scheme. Also,
DVDDAO, which Jerry was going to demo for us at one
time, but I don't know if it ever happened. These are
the items that could potentially give me some non -
Dark Side options for working with DVDs.
