Can you see them from C:\Desktop ? Are they empty directories with
non-zero Extended Attributes? Looking inside the EA's might give you a
clue (I use EABrowse which I got several years ago at
http://www.os2ss.com/information/kelder/eabr031.zip -- an FTP search for
eabr*.zip should find it).

Different tack: when I get strange icons or locked folders a reboot
clears them up.
