I am using a SMC 7004BR wired router at home without problems. I wish to
add a Netgear MR314 wireless router to above. For security, WEP enabled,
MAC filtering, no DHCP on the Netgear wireless router, change in ESSID,
and I wish to limit the subnet of the Netgear wireless router to
255.255.255.252, ie 2 clients?? I have never before changed the default
subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 . I plan to use the wireless capabilities via
my ThinkPad with eComStation 1.1. When I am not home, I plan to turn off
the Netgear wireless router.

dsl <--------> SMC wired <------> Netgear wireless <-> TP
(via WAN port) (LAN <-> LAN port with non-crossover cable)
LAN IP address - 192.168.123.126 - 192.168.123.128
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 - 255.255.255.0

With the above, I can log on to the Netgear wireless router without
problems via Mozilla 1.3. With my current configuration, the Netgear
wireless router says:

WAN Port :
IP Address : 192.168.123.128 DHCP : None
IP Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

LAN Port :
IP Address : 192.168.0.1 DHCP : None
IP Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Recall the SMC <--> Netgear is via LAN to LAN port but I connect to the
Netgear via 192.168.123.128 .

My questions are:
(1) How would you suggest I connect the SMC wired router to the Netgear
wireless router? Crossover cable via LAN <--> LAN port? (2) If I use only
my ThinkPad for wireless access do I use the subnet 255.255.255.252 or
255.255.255.253 ? (3) If my Netgear wireless router's IP address is
192.168.123.128, then my ThinkPad should be 192.168.123.129 or what?

I have not yet hooked up the ThinkPad since it has only Windows 2000 to
date; as soon as eCS 1.1 is out, eComStation will be the main OS on the
ThinkPad.

Thanks.
