It seems you were more lucky than Wayne and me !!  
 
With my WDC400EB I was struggling like Wayne =  
 
but got it solved on my own but do not know how and why ;-|

I guess I'm no help at all.  Without leaving my chair I counted ten  
HDD, =  
 
Conner, IBM, Maxtor, Western Digital.  They all work.  I have never had =  
 
an IDE not work.  If it wasn't for Windows it wouldn't be a challenge  
at =  
 
all.  You just need the right tools.
