Hi Harry
Hi George and everbody

Yesterday, once again, I tried a completely new effort on this new HDD:

1) The new 40GB WDC400EB got his place (IDE3/Master with a present
slave) as it will be in the future too !
2) The (old) 20GB WDC200AB was moved to IDE2 and still Master but NO
present slave !!
3) Then, perhaps a bit too courageous, I changed / modified the
existing partitons accordingly to fit needs !!
4) Afterwards, emptied the WDC400EB from all previous tries and with
DriveImage copied the old drives =

structure and data over to the new drive with leaving a 19GB free space
at the end of the HDD.

As a difference to my earlier experiences, this time PartitionMagic and
DriveImage were usable =

and worked well and imaging from 20GB to 40GB seems having worked
smooth !?

After this image transaction I removed the (old) 20GB from system and
rebooted ...
=2E.. and within the first lines displayed on screen I see the WDC400EB
recocnized BUT
the partition with the application AGAIN not recognized !!!

Checking the drive with FDisk I noticed that only the first (empty)
partition D: was recognized =

and the others on that drive (E: with all applications, F: with Down-
and UPload directories plus =

G: were not recocnized ;-(

Added this partition D: to the Bootmanager as it was all time before
and rebooted ...
=2E.. well, success that all partition were now visible properly with
FDisk =

BUT still absolutely NO access to the application partition E: ;-(((

I gave up and went back to the old 20GB drive !
Rebooted and started without any problem !!
Then wrote a complaint to WDC and asked for a replacement at my
supplier !!!

Thanks a lot for your assistance and comments !
I was happy to have had your guidance !!
You will hear if I have better news again !!!

Have a nice day, cheers
svobi

OK! After you replaced the 20GB drive with the 40GB your situation was
as follows:

	Drive 1 =3D 7.5GB
	Drive 2 =3D 40GB
	Drive 3 =3D 75GB

Right? Did you fdisk the "new" drive 2 (40GB) such that there was no
change in the partition lettering and partition types. That is, did you
create the same number and same type of partitions on the new Drive 2,
as was on the old? Since the drive is bigger, the partitions will be
bigger, but they should be the same number and same type to not confuse
your system. That is, you have certain applications installed on certain
partitions and certain system and dll files referenced in certain
partitions. You do not want to upset the system in recognizing and using
these files and programs.

After you did that, exactly how did you restore the files and folders
(that were on the previous drive 2) to the new drive 2?

I would say that if you simply replaced drive 2 with a newer drive 2 (as
your first step) and partitioned it the same as the old drive 2 (same
number and type of partitions) and if you properly restored the files
and folders, then you should not have any problems for this first step.

If, however, you boot up and your system wants to go through a CHKDSK
then I would say that either:

1.)	You did not recreate the same number and type of partitions on the
		new drive

2.)	Or, you did not format the partitions the same as on the old drive

3.)	Or, your restore of files and folders is faulty

Sorry, but that's all I can offer now. I've got to go to work.

Good luck!
HCM
