I would expect dhcpstrt to clear the routing.  That's what it does on a  
normal first time run.  Something else is getting farkled.  One of these  
days, I'll get curious enough to figure out exactly what it is.  
 
IAC, as you will read in Sandy's subsequent posts, a reboot is not  
required to recover.
