Hi Steven
Thanks for your interesting reply regarding my SCSI adapter choice !
One important aspect of choosing a dual channel SCSI adapter is
following:

I assume that it would be not bad to split in 2 different groups i.e.

Channel A: Scanner only
Channel B: Data Storage

At the moment I am not clear about using U160 in future !?

But it could make a sense to split my present units into 2 groups i.e =

Scanner and CD-ROM and =

HDD and MO drive !?

One point I dod not mention just now:

I am using SSI HHD Frames and Trays to be flexible between our =

systems. Like this I may have to re-consider using the same SCSI =

adapter in all of our systems !?

I am insecure if data are compatible or exchangable between these =

systems when the systems are having different SCSI units, ie. =

the existing AHA-2940AU and some newer ones i.e AHA-x9160 or =

any LSi units !?

Whats you advice ?

Thanks for your hints and have a nice weekend soon ;-)

I take it you are looking for something in the U160 range. The 29160
is a
good card. Both LSI and TekRAM have U160 cards. The TekRAM seems to be
especially popular in Europe. I don't know why.

Unless you are planning to upgrade the disk drives, a new SCSI card will
not make your system any faster.

Check the BIOS on the 2940s. If they have the option to run the bus at
20MB/Sec, they are Ultras. You can't go just by the silkscreen on the
card. If they are Ultras they are running the SCSI-II drive as fast a
it
will go.

IIRC, the DDPak Online has drivers for all the card you mentioned:

All the cards you mentioned have a good reputation for quality and
compatibility.

Keep in mind that SCSI is supposed to be backwards compatible.

With proper cabling, you can run a slow drive on a fast adapter and visa
versa. You can also mix wide and narrow devices. Some of the devices
might not run at full speed but they will run.

Regards,
