| The President's MessageOctober 2005by Tony Butka
Hi, All (Yes I really exist)!
Our main presentation at the October meeting was Sandy Shapiro doing a demonstration of how he got the ASUS WL330g Pocket Access Point working on his Thinkpad under OS/2. While this sounds like a straightforward proposition (right???), we quickly got a hands on help desk tutorial on how to set the device up. This was due to the fact that

Anyhow, all was well in the end and thanks to both Sandy and Steve Schiffman for the demonstration. our network provided by Steve Schiffman used fixed IP addressing instead of the more common DHCP automatic protocol, and
the facility that we were using also had a security/password setup to be dealt with.
The device itself is very cool and has been the subject of a VOICE article (see March 2005,
OS/2 WLAN with ASUS WL330g Pocket Access Point, at www.os2voice.org.
It is basically a very small combination wireless access point and WLAN client, works under OS/2, and costs around $65. Check out the VOICE article.
Next the group started to discuss using Mozilla Composer, but this 'discussion' morphed into a spirited free for all. Mabye next month we'll take a look at the composer functions in the Mozilla suite and how they can be used to maintain a remote web site...
Finally, Steve Levine brought along a 'mystery CD,' which turned out to be a demo eCS 1.2 'live CD' along the lines of Koppix, Mepis, and other linux distros. Very neat idea, and downloadable from the Mensys website at

Very fun stuff indeed - give it a whirl. See you next month, and if you have questions, just contact me at tony@scoug.com.
