SCOUG OS/2 For You - June 1997
Doings in June
ALL-OUT WAR PLANNED!
June 21st: This month's meeting may be both the most fun, and most
dangerous SCOUG meeting yet. Our scheduled presentation is likely to generate
lots of heat. No, we won't be talking about religion or politics - we'll be
talking... E-mail!
Several of our members just happen to believe that they're using the best,
the easiest, most powerful E-mail package on the market - but each of them use
different a one! They'll be duking it out at our next meeting, so you can
judge for yourself. Come root for your favorite E-mail application, and watch
the bits fly! Be sure to wear appropriate protective clothing.
General Interest Group - will continue the thread of the main
meeting. Time and interest permitting, they'll also discuss other types of
Internet software available on OS/2.
Networking - is going to set up and execute the multi-user raffle
sign-in program. They also will set up the server for use by the programming
SIG to use in their development and testing of the two versions of the new
raffle program.
Programming - will focus on two areas:
- current status of phase 1 raffle program replacement. They hope to
have real code and a testing environment for completing the two agreed upon
implementations (Java and VX-REXX).
- preparations for the SIG's contributions to the July SCOUG Open
House. The SIG will discuss what to present at their table, what other
contributions can be made to the event, and volunteers will be solicited to be
at the SIG table throughout the day.
Did you say lunch? Why yes! After the SIGs, we meet at the local Sizzler
to continue with the morning's comradery. Everyone willing to talk shop with
fellow OS/2ites is encouraged to come.
Beyond Saturday, the Internet SIG meets on Monday evening, June 23rd
at IBM in Costa Mesa. (4th Monday every month!). This month's agenda
includes cookies (the virtual kind) and Netscape plugins, including Bamba.
They'll continue their web authoring series with tutorials and demos of web
programming techniques. Join the Internet SIG to find out about the benefits
of using the internet, and the advantages of doing it with OS/2!
