SCOUG OS/2 For You - December 1996

New For Monday Nights: OS/2 Help Desk

"If You've Got The Questions, We've Got The Answers"

Beginning in December, a new feature at the SCOUG meeting on the second Monday of the month will be the OS/2 Help Desk. Resident experts in all fields of OS/2 usage will be on hand to guide you through sticky situations.

At their November meeting, the SCOUG Board of Directors decided the OS/2 Help Desk was the answer for many OS/2 users with general questions and unresolved problems that aren't directly addressed at the general and SIG meetings.

"We want to make sure that every OS/2 user, SCOUG member or not, gets the full support they need to utilize their computers to the fullest," said Rollin White, SCOUG President. "Accordingly, we've set aside the second Monday of every month specifically for those people. Whether it's a general usage problem, an installation problem or something more specific, the OS/2 Help Desk will give us a good opportunity to individually work with users to resolve their problems."

Some of the problems that the OS/2 Help Desk experts expect to field will concern software setup, the fine tuning of CONFIG files, installing networks, finding specific bugs in user-written programs (especially REXX, the easily learned programming language which many OS/2 users are mastering) and intermittent hardware problems. We are currently checking on the feasibility of having Internet and CompuServe access for any sticky questions that require a bit of research.

Those who plan to make use of the OS/2 Help Desk are encouraged to call first to make sure their needs will be handled properly. You should definitely bring your machine - including keyboard, mouse, and the like - if you want to fix something. The goal is that each and every attendee leaves with their problems solved.

Come One, Come All

The first OS/2 Help Desk is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9th. So, start making your OS/2 "help me" lists and circle the date each month on your calendar.
