SCOUG OS/2 For You - May 1996
May Meeting Topic
Coming to SCOUG May 18th
Stardock, the Sequel
Galactic Civilizations 2 is out and so are some exciting third party
scenarios. Brad Wardell of Stardock is returning this month to zap you
with excitement. He'll also be showing the first OS/2 native multiplayer
first person action game, Trials of Battle, a sort-of cross between DOOM
and Wing Commander, designed from the ground up to use OS/2's unique
abilities.
On the more serious side, Brad will give us a tour of the changes to
Object Desktop (now available as version 1.5), many of which were user
suggested features. He'll also preview the Professional version coming
out later this quarter that will additionally offer security, desktop
management, document management, advisors, and tape backup capabilities.
Stick around, there's more
After the presentation, Q&A gives you a chance to ask those perplexing
OS/2 questions - and hopefully get some answers. There will be a brief
break before the SIGs begin:
General Interest Group - will explore the basics of REXX, what it is, what
can be done with it, and what add-ons are available. As always,
general questions and answers will follow.
Network - will conclude building their SOHO peer to peer network by
defining peer resources on each workstation.
Programmers - will continue with the openclass library sample program. They
will be looking at how to improve the appearance of the program window by using the
various types of canvas classes and explore how to program font and color changes.
May 20th, not the 27th Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the Internet SIG will
meet on Monday, May 20th at 7 PM this month. Until then, you can check out their new
web page at:
