| SCOUG OS/2 For You - July 1994
July Meeting TopicJuly Meeting(sort of) A New Meeting Format Starting Promptly at 9 AM
The SCOUG general meetings will follow a new format starting in July.
It's not really all that different, just more is compressed into the
available time. The general meeting will begin at 9AM sharp with
announcements and whatever business needs attending to. That will be
followed, in short order, with the presentation for the month. Then, an
open question and answer period and raffle, and the meeting will conclude
about 11AM.
But, it's really not over at 11 - that's actually the break time before
the new special interest groups (SIGs) meet from 11:15AM - 12:30PM. There
will be one group focusing on introductory OS/2 topics such as templates,
Palettes, Settings Notebooks, and the OS/2 productivity tools; one for
those interested in programming (possibly in C, C++, and/or REXX) for
OS/2, Presentation Manager, and the Workplace Shell; and another more
specialized group for local area networks (LANs) such as LAN Server and
Novell NetWare. These groups are open to all interested members and you
are encouraged to participate if one of the topic areas strikes your
fancy.
Fastback for OS/2 The presentation this month will be on Fastback for OS/2
from the Fifth Generation division of Symantec. Vince Pfeiffer, product
manager for Fastback for OS/2, will show off the new edition of this
backup product.
Fastback for OS/2 backs up hard drives - both FAT and HPFS - to floppy
disks, QIC-40 and QIC-80 floppy tape drives (such as the Colorado Jumbo
series), Bernoulli drives, and optical media. The program handles OS/2's
long file names and extended attributes, and, when necessary, can be used
to restore the system.
